a hand-painted watercolor Christmas card, clipart, illustration or wallpaper that looks painted by an illustrator for a stationery shop. GRAPHIC LANGUAGE: a loose watercolor winter scene - a row of little Christmas village houses with glowing windows, snowy pine trees, a church, a stone bridge, soft hills and falling snow - painted wet-on-wet with soft bleeding edges and fine ink-free brushwork, sitting in the lower part of the picture or in a soft vignette, with generous white paper left around the words; clipart pieces stand alone on white paper. LIGHT: soft, cold winter daylight with warm golden light glowing from the windows. COLOUR: muted winter tones - slate blue, sage and pine green, warm brick red and ochre - on white or cream paper; colour fades out into the paper at the edges. TEXTURE: visible cold-press watercolor paper grain, pigment blooms and granulation, a few white gouache snow dots. TIERS: the cosy village tier has houses, warm windows and red accents; the quiet snowscape tier has pines, hills and a frozen stream in mostly blue and white. LETTERFORM COLOR PRIORITY: if the selected font defines its own letterform colour or material, that takes absolute priority; the muted winter palette colours the letters only when the font does not specify. ATMOSPHERE: the painted winter scene, the white paper and the soft cold light always appear around the words regardless of letterform colour. When no specific material is defined by the font: default lighting - the words sit on white cold-press paper above a painted snowy village. A watercolor Christmas card front: 'Warmest Wishes' in the white paper at the top, a painted row of snowy village houses with glowing windows and pine trees below, 'The Parkers' small at the bottom.
