A Japanese traditional irezumi tattoo design for a half sleeve, drawn as a flat hand-inked graphic with no text, on a plain pale cream-white ground with a generous clean margin all round. A tall vertical composition in a gentle S-curve. At the centre, a large koi swims upward against a cascading waterfall, body arched diagonally, head high and mouth open, tail whipping below. Every scale is an outlined overlapping crescent, with bold fins and whiskers. Koi colour is vermilion red-orange with cream highlights and black-shaded scale edges, graded smoothly to black at the tail and fin tips. The waterfall is a ribbon of parallel flowing water lines in indigo blue, curving over dark rocks with black outlines and tapering to white spray. At the base, big crashing waves with curled claw-like foam tips in deep indigo and jade green, with spiral swirls. At the top, scrolling stylised clouds and curling wind bars in black and grey, fading out into the bare ground.
