A Japanese irezumi tattoo flash design presented on a clean pure white paper background, as a tattoo artist would show a client. One large koi carp swims upward on a gentle diagonal from the lower left to the upper right, body in a graceful S-curve, head raised and mouth open, whiskers flowing. The koi has bold black outlines and overlapping scales in vermilion red, with the scale edges shaded in deep indigo and the fins and tail in translucent flowing ribbons of vermilion fading to bare white highlights. The belly stays bare white. Black shading grades smoothly into the body near the tail. Beneath and around the koi's lower body rise crashing indigo and jade waves with curled claw-like foam tips, outlined in black with white foam. A few curling wind bars and small stylised clouds in graded black and indigo sit behind the upper body. Cherry blossoms in peony pink with golden-yellow centres and black outlines drift around the koi, with a few loose petals falling. The motif is isolated as a single freestanding composition with generous white space around it and no frame. Along the koi's side, following the curve of its body from tail up to head, runs the English word "Perseverance" in Latin letters, hand-painted in a Japanese dry brush: upright classical shodo skeleton with a 5:1 thick-to-thin ratio and hane terminals, black ink at about 45% density, with fine parallel bristle gaps and flying-white breaks inside the strokes, dark entries and nearly translucent grey exits, paper grain showing through. The lettering stays legible and sits on white beside the body, slightly overlapping the wave tips. Flat even woodblock-print look, no cast shadows, no glow, subtle print grain in the flat colour areas.
